Vanity, E. Coli, continuing to vanquish.

HEY EVERYBODY!

Madeline is still hard at work on her E. Coli Project, her newest addition being E. Coli Lipstick. Here are a few photos from a shoot we did this past week. We also had Sarah, Madeline’s sister-in-law, come along and do some modeling.

Don’t worry though, the lipstick you see on their lips did not contain E. Coli , though the lipstick  they were holding did. OH MAN!

Enjoy!

Cheers,

benjamin

Quick Update

It’s been quite some time since I’ve posted and I want to let you know of an upcoming post that I will be doing. Madeline had me take a few more photos for her E. Coli project and I really like the new addition to this concept and was pleased with some of the shots we got. So, hopefully I will get a moment in the next few days to post these photos.

Have a great day!

cheers,

Sister, E. Coli, Art

•March 28, 2009 • 1 Comment

I never had a sister. It was always just my younger brother Dillon and I. Though there were many years that I spent at my friend Alex’s house and he had a sister, Madeline.

So for quite some time I have considered Madeline to be my sister.

I want to show you some of her work.

This is her recent piece which she had me photograph for her grad-school portfolio.

Each pink or green circle you see hung upon the wall is a petri-dish filled with E. Coli. The color, as I understand it from Madeline’s explanation, comes from the E. Coli feeding on certain nutrients and different nutrients cause distinct colors to  form.

I am very proud of her for the work she has done and I want to share it with you.

Enjoy.

This is an E. Coli Necklace.

An Outbreak is Approaching

It involves E. Coli.

So wait with great expectation.

NO WINGS TO SPEAK OF

•March 14, 2009 • Leave a Comment

I was a bit out of my element the other night as I ventured to Buffalo MN to photograph my friend Ryan’s band NO WINGS TO SPEAK OF. Between feeling that if my car was to break down I might never be found and arriving at the show being completely washed over by the nostalgia of my earlier rock and roll days, I was left with the overwhelming awareness of my increasing age and my lack of hipness.

This photo shoot was also different for me in that I haven’t really shot too many live shows. They present many challenges for the photographer, like the minimal amount of light combined with the fact that the subjects are constantly in motion.

Nonetheless, I want to share a few of my shots from this show.

I also included a couple shots from another band they were on tour with, FROM THE PAWN (out of Long Island, NY).

ENJOY!

Ainsley

•March 3, 2009 • 2 Comments

It was nearly four years ago that I first met Ainsley’s daddy Scott. However, he wasn’t yet a daddy. The two of us among others were sitting in an overseas preparation class, though I did not find friendship with him until months later in London England. From that point on I have considered Scott as one of my closest friends.

My interactions and knowledge of Amanda, his wife (at that time, girlfriend) were quite minimal, but I  would learn to great lengths who she was through Scott who was head-over-heals for his girl back in the states.

Since our return three years ago, both of us graduated from college, Scott and Amanda got married, and our friendship has, as one would expect,  lessened. It has lessened in quantity of time, while the genuine quality has remained and continues to grow. Every time they have invited me into their home our conversations always leave me encouraged, strengthened, and wanting more. Not to mention, Amanda makes one killer BBQ chicken pizza!

I am so thankful for Scott and Amanda – and now little Ainsley. It has been nothing but an honor for me to know them. God has gifted them in specific and amazing ways and I’m thankful they use those gifts to serve others.  They are such a blessing to me and I know to others who have the privilege of knowing them.

Enjoy these few photos. See the joy, the love, and the beauty in God’s creation.

Cheers,

benjamin

Photo not taken by me.

I am not writing this post as an obligatory reciprocation. I had it upon my heart to give a brief shout-out to my boy Guy prior to his blog post. He just beat me to the punch.

Nonetheless, I want to highlight Guy as being one, among many, of the most influential people in my photography. Whether sharing insights and knowledge, letting me use his lighting, or hooking me up with random photo shoots, Guy has always been someone I can look to in my artistic pursuits. Photography is a passion that the both of us share.

Though before either of us had the common bond of capturing images we had a brotherly bond. I am greatly thankful for the friendship that we have had over the years. I appreciate many things about him: He’s humble. He’s a servant. He’s imaginative. He’s humorous. He’s a majestic thinker. But most of all he has a deep, genuine, fervent faith that challenges others to push forward for the ultimate glory of Christ. It’s an eternal friendship for which I want to give thanks.

I love you man!

Cheers,

benjamin

You can view some of Guy’s work here.
